Climate change is at the heart of the concerns of a growing category of the public. The debates have convinced policymakers to introduce various measures to reduce carbon emissions. Their effectiveness is limited by a multitude of factors such as the determination in implementation, planned resources, effective promotion of measures, understanding of them by the public, but also by the resistance to the changes.
The urgency of the measures is so great that, often, there is no enough time for a gradual implementation. The world is changing rapidly, old technologies are replacing by new ones, the way of communication is rapidly changing, lifestyles are our lives also changing... In this system, often too dynamic, we need some solid landmarks, stability and a comfortable environment familiar and in accord with our needs.
The effect of the measures is sometimes unexpected. Take, for example, the case of the concerns caused by the pollution of the seas and oceans with micro-plastic, a concern that is based on undisputed scientific measured data, and on the other hand important effects on ecosystems and the health of the population. The measure of reducing the plastic used for packaging has developed naturally from the analysis of the spectrum of possible interventions and of the expected effects. The limiting of the use of non-degradable plastic packaging has led to their replacement with paper packages. Consequently, an increase of the paper’s price occurred with effects in the price of printing, generating a perturbation of associated businesses and a paper crisis. As we can see not only individual adaptability is important, but also that of group or at company level. Paper recycling can mostly solve the difficulties that arise, but a faster adaptive response is needed. And the speed of this response depends on the entire society. Gestures sometimes categorized as small, aggregated at the social level, often may have major consequences. They can accelerate or slow-down the individual or group adaptability. Everyone's example is important since often it is shared, voluntary or not, to the community. The urgency of climate actions cannot suffer postponement. If we do not make the necessary changes now, tomorrow we will be forced to adapt our existence to some severe constraints resulted from the climate, environment and the planet contexts.
